MSM Book Zero - The Four Patches
'Book Zero' was a precursor book that we created that explored a few 'classic' patches, and how you could use any modular system to create them. It was our chance to see if we could create a generic book about specific patches, but without having to resort to some kind of arcane notation system. By using graphic images of basic modules, you should be able to use this book regardless of what modular system you have.

MSM Book One - Oscillators and LFOs
You can get to the book's online content (including the audio lesson material) at this link: http://20objects.com/book1/
'Book One' explores the use of Oscillators - and their 'slow' cousins, LFOs. Oscillators are the basic sound-generating tools of the modular synthesizer, and this book spends time helping you to get to know your oscillators, and learning some of the ways to extend them (through FM, waveshaping and sync). There are also a set of example patches that you can use to further your understanding of some 'classic' patches that take advantage of even the most basic oscillator.
This book again uses generic images to allow you to use the concepts for your own modular system patching.

MSM Book Two - Envelopes and VCAs
You can get to the book's online content (including the audio lesson material) at this link: http://20objects.com/book2/
'Book Two' explores the use of envelopes and VCAs, two of the tools required to turn the never-ending sound of oscillators in to the discrete events that create notes and phrases. This book explores the different types of envelopes, the use of curves to enhance their use, and the way that VCAs can be used to both create note events and add a contour to the sound itself. This includes a set of example patches that you can use to further your understanding of some 'classic' patches that take advantage of even the most basic envelopes and VCAs.
This book again uses generic images to allow you to use the concepts for your own modular system patching.
